We took the train to LA for the Chinese New Year Parade<\/strong><\/a> in Chinatown<\/strong><\/a>, then walked to Philippe, The Original<\/strong><\/a> and Olvera Street<\/strong><\/a> — All are within walking distance from each other.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

The Dragons and Confetti Poppers were the best part of the parade.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

Nearby in Chinatown<\/a>, Sugar Cane was being pressed —\u00a0As a kid, I remember\u00a0a lot of Sugar Cane being sold on\u00a0Olvera Street, but didn’t see any available whatsoever.\u00a0 I wonder why?!<\/p>\n

\"China<\/a><\/p>\n

The most expensive Ginseng we saw\u00a0was $899.00 per pound — Wow.<\/p>\n

\"Chinese<\/a><\/p>\n

And then we went to Philippe, The Original<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 It’s family owned and operated since 1908.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

They<\/a> claim to be the Home of the French Dip Sandwich<\/strong> and lines can be\u00a0too long.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

The lines are weird too — One line becomes ‘pick the best of several’ that lead to the counter.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

Note it’s cash only — A French Dip Sandwich<\/strong> was once 35\u00a2.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

We both went with the Beef French Dip<\/strong>, though Philippe’s<\/a> offers several Meat options.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

Ours was with a Pickled Egg, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Lemonade and\u00a0Iced Tea.<\/p>\n

\"LA,<\/a><\/p>\n

Okay, I’m sorry to say… It’s just okay<\/a>.\u00a0 I’m not a fan of\u00a0pre-dunk Bread.\u00a0 It makes the Sandwich soggy.\u00a0 I’d prefer to dip it\u00a0with each bite.\u00a0 I’m told\u00a0to have it with Philippe’s<\/a> Mustard next time and wish I had it this day, since I’m not sure I want to stand in line\u00a0for it again.<\/p>\n

I’m happy to have tried it, which is good enough for now — We’ll see about next time.<\/p>\n

Don’t get gas here (above) near Philippe’s<\/a> and Olvera Street<\/a> — It’s a bigger rip-off than usual.<\/p>\n
