SONIC Drive-In<\/strong> is now in South Orange County looking a little different after passing a few stepford regulations imposed by the City of Mission Viejo.\u00a0 Although the exterior isn’t traditional, they’re serving\u00a0the same food by carhops on roller skates.\u00a0 I LOVE that about SONIC — It’s nostalgic and fun.<\/p>\n

Although SONIC has been around for more than 50 years and has over 3,500 locations, I had yet to pass one during my travels, until its appearance in Mission Viejo just over two weeks ago.\u00a0 This was my first visit.\u00a0 You can\u00a0consider the items below as\u00a0potential prizes in the $25 on the 25th SONIC Gift Card Giveaway<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"sonic-044\"<\/a>These days all fast food restaurants are working to serve healthy choices.\u00a0 SONIC is serving a Grilled Chicken Sandwich<\/strong> on a Wheat Bun —\u00a0It was one of the better ones I’ve tried.\u00a0\u00a0We also appreciated the Fresh Apples<\/strong> with the Low Fat Caramel Dipping Sauce and a Banana<\/strong> as a Side option.\u00a0 On their website is an itemized calorie meal builder, which can be\u00a0helpful too.<\/p>\n

A few of\u00a0us gathered to try a lot of food and were happy to learn that\u00a0Breakfast is served all day long.\u00a0 The Texas Toast options are different — We chose the Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster<\/strong>, which comes with an Onion Ring.<\/p>\n

And we had to get the Tots<\/strong>, since that’s one<\/em> of the Sides they’re appreciated for.\u00a0 The Tots were perfectly crispy, but we\u00a0really liked the Onion Rings<\/strong> that are freshly battered each day.\u00a0 They’re not frozen — That’s a good thing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We were completely stuffed after the Sausage Biscuit Dippers & Gravy<\/strong>,\u00a0Frito Chili Cheese Pie Wrap<\/strong>, Turtle Pecan & Caramel Bundt Cake<\/strong> and\u00a0famous Cherry Limeade<\/strong> (aka giant Shirley Temple).\u00a0\u00a0In addition to what’s\u00a0pictured here, there was more and we particularly loved the Banana Cream Pie Shake<\/strong>.\u00a0 SONIC’s Drink options are crazy good.\u00a0 How can you pick one?\u00a0 We all left with three each, HA.\u00a0\u00a0It appears many will drive for miles to eat at a SONIC.\u00a0 One pictured below drove all the way from Connecticut.\u00a0 Okay, she didn’t drive to California just for it, but\u00a0she\u00a0did pass many along the way.<\/p>\n

Overall, I found SONIC Drive-In\u00a0to be more\u00a0than\u00a0just a fast food restaurant.\u00a0 It’s a fun experience.\u00a0 You can sit on the patio or stay in your car parked in one of the Drive-In stalls, to\u00a0be served by a\u00a0skating carhop —\u00a0Or just\u00a0drive through.\u00a0 They have a Happy Hour (2-4 PM), $1 Menu and more, but you’ll need to learn the rest\u00a0from them.<\/p>\n
